"Restoring eyesight makes an immense difference to the lives of the East Timorese people."
Dr Nitin Verma,
Founder, East Timor Eye Program
The East Timor Eye Program has been restoring eye sight and improving eye health in Timor Leste since 2000.
The Program is helping rebuild Timor Leste’s eye health services by training local doctors, eye care nurses and eye care technicians and providing outreach services to five districts.
The most common eye problems in Timor Leste, one of the world's newest and poorest countries, are preventable or treatable. They include refractive error, cataract, vitamin A deficiency and trauma, all of which can cause significant visual impairment or blindness.
